Study these standards for the test:
4. Earth and Life History (Earth Science)
a. I know that Earth processes today are similar to those that
occurred in the past and have long lasting effects.
b. I know that there have been many catastrophic
events that have disrupted life on Earth. These
events in Earth’s history include volcanic
interruptions and the impact of asteroids.
c. I know that the rock cycle includes the formation of new
sediment and rocks; and that rocks are often found in layers;
and the older layers are further down in the Earth.
d. I know that Earth is about 4.6 billion years old and
that life on this planet has existed for more than 3
billion years. The evidence for these conclusions
comes from the Earth’s rock and soil layers and
from radioactive dating.
e. I know from fossil evidence that life and
environmental conditions on Earth have changed
over time.
f. I know that the Earth’s continental and oceanic
plates have moved over time. As the plates move the
local climate and geographic conditions change.
These environmental changes cause the organisms
to adapt and effect their distribution throughout the
planet.
g. I know how to explain, on a geologic time scale, the major
events that occur in the life cycles of plants and animals.
