Update - Feb. 6 - Feb 10 (Week 21)

Hi,

>>TEST SCORES from today: Great results - AGAIN!
*90%* of students scored proficient or above (score of 16 correct out of 21; overall score average = 87%)!
Scores are posted on jupitergrades.com
>> HOMEWORK: READ CHAPTER 10 / BRING GREEN WORKBOOKS/ BRING NEW JOURNAL (if needed)

>> NEW QUARTER FOR SCHOOL -- Check http://JupiterGrades.com! Please stay up-to-date with your child's grade. (Let me know if you need login information).

>> STUDENT NUTRITION -- Do you know what YOUR child is eating?

We observe A LOT of students eating Taki's/ Cheetoh's/ chips and drinking energy drinks/ sodas/ coffee drinks for BREAKFAST and through out the school day!

These foods don't really have any nutritional value for kids -- lots of sugar/ fat and caffeine.
Years of eating these foods in childhood and adolescence can have long term effects into adulthood.
Daily we see students with upset stomachs, etc from these foods also.

Just something to think about.... ;)

Thanks,
Mr. Sandoval

Update - Feb 3 - STUDY! TEST!

>> SCIENCE TEST / FINAL ASSESSMENT - TUESDAY, FEB 7TH!

Study chapter 8 & 9
Study Journal Notes
Study Packet/ in class work
And see below.

>> Packet #7 Due Monday:
PowerPoint chapter 8 printout
Bill Nye Fossils
World Map
Fossils and Climate
PowerPoint chapter 9 printout

>> JOURNALS -- please check to see if your child needs a NEW SCIENCE JOURNAL

Study these standards for the test:
4. Earth and Life History (Earth Science)
a. I know that Earth processes today are similar to those that
occurred in the past and have long lasting effects.
b. I know that there have been many catastrophic
events that have disrupted life on Earth. These
events in Earth’s history include volcanic
interruptions and the impact of asteroids.
c. I know that the rock cycle includes the formation of new
sediment and rocks; and that rocks are often found in layers;
and the older layers are further down in the Earth.
d. I know that Earth is about 4.6 billion years old and
that life on this planet has existed for more than 3
billion years. The evidence for these conclusions
comes from the Earth’s rock and soil layers and
from radioactive dating.
e. I know from fossil evidence that life and
environmental conditions on Earth have changed
over time.
f. I know that the Earth’s continental and oceanic
plates have moved over time. As the plates move the
local climate and geographic conditions change.
These environmental changes cause the organisms
to adapt and effect their distribution throughout the
planet.
g. I know how to explain, on a geologic time scale, the major
events that occur in the life cycles of plants and animals.
KNOW THESE TERMS:
UNIFORMITARIANISM            CATASTROPHISM
RELATIVE DATING                        RADIOACTIVITY
ABSOLUTE DATING RADIOMETRIC DATING/ HALF-LIFE
FOSSILS                                    TRACE/ INDEX FOSSIL
PALEONTOLOGY                        SUPERPOSITION
CONTINENTAL DRIFT            PLATE TECTONICS
GEOLOGIC TIME SCALE            EXTINCTION
MESOZOIC, CENOZOIC, PALEOZOIC, PRECAMBRIAN
