6th-Update - Nov 30 - Dec 4

Hi,

***HOMEWORK THIS WEEK -- GET 3x5 NOTECARDS***
Please make sure your student gets a pack of 3x5 notecards. A pack of 100 is less than $1 at most places (Target, Walmart, Staples, etc.)

Other school supplies -- I am noticing a lot of students without basic supplies like PENCILS and PENS. Make sure your child has a good supply of pencils/ pens.

Please have your child skim/ read chapter 9, 10, and 11 - we are starting a new unit of study - "Shaping The Earth's Surface"

***CANNED FOOD DRIVE + DRESS UP DAY**
EARTH HOUSE is in 2nd place overall for the house challenge! Help us get back to 1st place!

Friday -- CANNED FOOD turn in day. Non-perishable foods can be brought in any day this week to turn in Friday.
Friday -- PAJAMA dress up day! Please remember that dress code is still enforced. School appropriate pajama wear...

On Friday, 6th graders will be taking a common assessment exam on PLATE TECTONICS (all 6th graders in the school take this same test).
It mostly covers chapter 6 with a little from ch. 7 & 8.

7th Grade Update - HUMAN BODY PROJECT - DUE MAY 26

The 7th graders will be starting to work on this project. They are to build a model of a part of  the body, or a system of the body that SHOWS/ DEMONSTRATES a FUNCTION of it works. There should be some sort of ACTION or MOVEMENT. 

They will have some time in class to research information, but the majority of work is to be done at home.

Period 2 and 3 had a great time at the San Diego EcoCenter today. It was great learning experience about alternative fuel options. Have your child tell you what they learned.

INVENTION CONVENTION

OBJECTIVE:     To identify a “problem” or need, and design and propose an original invention!

**THIS YEAR’S THEME: ECO-FRIENDLY INVENTIONS**

Questions to think about:
How could we:    Use less resources?
            Use less electricity/ energy?
            Conserve/ save resources and energy
            Reduce waste?
            Recycle waste/ resources?
            Reuse waste/ resources?
            Use human power for something?
            Use alternative energy: SOLAR, WIND, WATER, etc.
